Van Buren County Community School District is proud to announce it has been selected by the Iowa Department of Education as one of only 10 school districts across the state to receive a 2026-2027 Therapeutic Classroom Incentive Grant. This competitive grant will support the development of therapeutic classroom services designed to meet the unique social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of students.
The Therapeutic Classroom Incentive Grant is part of Iowa’s statewide initiative to expand access to high quality mental health and behavioral supports for students. The grant will allow Van Buren County Community School District to enhance student services by creating learning environments where students can build emotional regulation skills, strengthen positive behaviors, and successfully access their education while receiving individualized support.
The district’s therapeutic classroom will be located at Harmony Center, where staff will provide structured, evidence-based supports that help students develop the skills needed to successfully return to and thrive in their general education environments whenever appropriate.
The Iowa Department of Education awarded more than $2.35 million through this year’s grant program to establish 19 new therapeutic classrooms serving more than 215 students across Iowa during the 2026-2027 school year. Van Buren County Community School District is honored to be among the selected recipients.
The district looks forward to launching the therapeutic classroom this fall and continuing its commitment to providing innovative, student centered supports that promote academic achievement, emotional well being, and long term success for every learner.
